Subject: Repost-Windows 95..Which Lightwave to use?
Sender: owner-lightwave-l@netcom.com
Precedence: bulk
Greetings! I've been lurking on this list for many moons now. Bereft of an
Amiga, I use this listserv to get some inside info on Lightwave, and to find
out about the industry in general. (And fantasize about nice it would be to
use the software you people get to run! ;) )
Now, there is a version out for the PC. MY CHANCE HAS COME!
BUT, I'm running Chicago/Windows 95. Do I buy the Windows NT version
of Lightwave V4.0, or the "plain" windows version?
(Windows NT and an extra 16mb of ram would push lightwave out of my
price range, as I am using this for a hobby, rather than for a source of income)
I am under the impression that these are different pieces of
software, the "plain" version running in a pseudo-32 bit mode using WIN32S
(a kludge to enable Windows 3.x to run 32 bit software), where the NT
version is a "true" 32 bit, multitasking version. I don't know if Windows 95
is close enough code-wise to NT to run this particular version (Since the NT
version is supposed to run faster.. Because of NT?)
I have different answers from mail order houses, and the NewTek
people on the sales end of things seem to be ..uncertain.. (Being
amiga-oids, I guess.)
I posted this question to the newsgroup, and received two responses.
Neither one seemed to be too certain either. Can someone here help
to clarify this question? (Since, when Windows 95 DOES come out (Aug?) this
will become a common question, I suspect.)
And, btw, the version I am running of Windows 95 is a LOT better than the
IBM PC windoze/DOS you've been exposed to. I hope this will ease the trauma
of some Amiga people who do feel "forced" to wander over to the IBM camp.;)
Thanks in advance for your aid...
Sorry if this is posted twice. My internet provider hiccup'd when I clicked
send. I'm not too sure if this made it out...
